Elbow therapy:
Anchor theraband high. With palm facing down push band down and lift up, rotate hand so that it faces up & then have theraband go up and down. Keep doing this movement alternating with palm facing up and down. Do 3 sets of 20.
Repeat above with theraband anchored at a low point.
Another elbow exercise is to hang a weight from a piece of pipe, grip pipe and roll rope up so weight lifts off ground and then vice versa (lower weight).
Increase resistance as stength increases and pain decreases.

I realize your post was over a year ago....how is you lawn doing now? Did it survive the summer? How did it manage with Irene? I live in Northern Virginia and struggle with the same problems as far as keeping my tall fescue from going dormant and even dying (which set the conditions for weeds to creep in) during the summer. I planted the fescue last fall and it turned out absolutely beautiful during the winter and spring months, but lost its "composure" during the summer.

I'm planning to use Kentucky Blue grass this year and see how it goes.

compost and aeration are good ideas, but I think you also need to test the soil and see if it needs lime. I live in Virginia, have lots of trees on my property, and have to deal with very acid soil that hampers grass growth. Lotsa lime reduces this acidity.

OMG, I saw this EXACT type of beetle a few weeks ago. It was HUGE and scary and this is the exact kind that I saw, your photos are good. I have been worried ever since, wondering what kind of beetle this thing was. I'm glad you documented it.
Thanks, and please let me know if you find out.

elsonicd, unfortunately that didn't work for me. i opened up my McAfee program and it had expired. I went to the navigation page just like you said but there was only one problem. it was grayed out. I couldn't click on anything, it was completely unresponsive. i've done some google searching and pretty much all of the results say the same thing as you've said or there were no responses to the questions i had.

Found this same beetle today in my yard in Simsbury along with a smaller one that flew away. Researched to find out that the retractable spike from the back is to lay larva in the ground that eat tree roots. RIP broad necked root boarer...

I found this beetle today in our yard. I took photo's of it when it has its long appendage extended out the "Back-end" ...I did find out it is the Broad Necked Root Boarer.
But when you come across a big beetle like this with that "spike" out the back, it's scarey. haha Wish I could have posted the photo's here to show you.
