If there’s one thing I can’t stand, it’s seeing ants walking around the inside of a house. It always makes me think that there are more ants where the few I see come from and it also makes me think that there are just billions of them in the walls. I know that’s probably not true, but I really try to be offensive when it comes to termite and ant control in the home.
Last Summer, I saw a few black ants walking around the driveway. I watched them do their normal “ant” thing and then I watched them walk towards the garage. That’s when I freaked out. I knew for sure they were trying to get in. Again, I do not like ants anywhere near the house. I had to do something.
Later that day, I went out to Home Depot and picked up the typical ant and termite control. I sprayed all around the perimeter of the house and watched the ants continue to survive and thrive. They would disappear for a few days and then come back and give me the finger. Yeah, yeah, typical big box store shopper. Autumn came and I didn’t see any more ants. I guess they went into hibernation.
A few weeks ago, I started seeing ants again and I started thinking they were after me again. What did I do? I went into the garage and got out that old ant spray and started spraying, but this time, the ants didn’t even care. They marched right through and laughed at me. I knew there had to be a better solution. I called a pest control company.
Here are the prices I got. For termite control, it cost about $700 to do the perimeter of the house. For ant control, it cost about $170. I think they come every few months or so. The guy started telling me that the price changes if I wanted the “guarantee.” That’s when I hung up. I can’t stand salesy companies. Just come out, do the job and leave. I am not trying to start some relationship with you. Here’s my request – Fix the ant problem. No, they can’t do that. They want you to sign some contract, have a guarantee and go on dates three nights a week. Again (this seems to be my life story), I have to do it myself to get the job done right.
I began poking around the internet for an effective ant control solution for homeowners. I needed something that would allow the ants to pick up the poison and bring it back to the nest. That’s the only way to do it. If the poison just kills the ant before it gets back to the nest, that queen is just sitting there making more ants, so it’s not really going to get the job done.
While doing my research on what gets rid of ants, all roads kept leading back to Termidor. Termidor is a chemical that controls ants and termites. That’s a double bonus. Apparently, it does everything I said I needed it to do and it’s very highly rated among existing users. I ordered a bottle from PestMall for about $62.

Now, here’s the strange part. On the Termidor website, they say that you need to be a certified or licensed Termidor pest control guy to buy this stuff. Well, I am here to tell you that I am not certified and I have a bottle of the stuff sitting in the garage. Also, the first website I found that sold Termidor, sold it for close to $100 for the same size bottle I got for $62. Okay, I am just warning you that apparently the pest control industry is a bit shady. Do your research.
Since I already had a nice sprayer, I did the typical application to the perimeter of the house. I instructed my better half not to kill any ants, if she sees them. We need them to be carriers back to the nest. Since the application a few days ago, we have seen about five ants. I am not sure if they will be the carriers we are looking for, but I am fairly certain this chemical is going to do the job.
I am going to keep my eyes peeled over the next few weeks and will report back with my findings. Actually, if you don’t see another post about this, just assume that the problem has been solved. If you do see another post, it will be a “complaining” post, because that’s usually where I get my inspiration.

Just to clarify as pest control profesional we are not all sham guys and salesmen. What you need to understand is this. All pesticides sold on these do-it-yourself websites are the same ones we buy. The difference is this: You as a homeowner can buy these products and use them ONLY and EXCLUSIVELY on your own home, you can not spray other homes “legally”. That is what the label means. So with a chemical like Termidor SC which is a great product and I use it for ant and termite control, I have to have the LIC to spray other properties. Remember this also. Label is Law let me say this again…LABEL IS LAW….so that being said read the label and you can only Apply Termidor in the same spot 2 time a Year. When the general public buys these products without training and following the label is when they get abused and the chemicals end up getting pulled from the market by the EPA….Great job finding this product and good luck.
