I have had this post on my “to-do” list for a while now. Yes, that’s right, I get ideas and I jot them down on my to-do list. If I didn’t do that, I would certainly forget about all of them.
I want to tell you a short story. It’s a really good one about something that changed my life. It just happened a few days ago.
Life changing events don’t have to evolve from grandiose events. Oftentimes, it’s the little things that change a person. Sometimes, it will be the way the light hits a tree, the way someone smells or the sound of a river that brings you back to your childhood. It’s those little things that we reflect on that prompt us to make decisions for the future. I bet it happens more often than you are aware. The little nudges…
This past Sunday morning, I made my way downstairs for my regular morning ritual. I usually make the coffee and while that is doing its thing, I head to the basement to get some work done. It’s by far my favorite time of day, especially if it’s sunny outside. I just love pulling the curtains apart and feeling the warmth of the sun hit me. It really never gets old.
Something else I usually do is to turn on the television before I hunker down in the computer chair. During the week, I watch “Squawk on the Street” just to get caught up on the news that may have happened while I was asleep. I know, I know, most of the time the news isn’t worth hearing. Anyway, since it was Sunday, I knew that my usual program wasn’t available. I decided to simply turn on the television and let it ride.
For about ten minutes, I didn’t know what was playing to my left. It was some movie I had never seen. Since I am not really into movies much, I didn’t give it any real attention. Then, I heard this:
This is music that was created by Jeff Danna (Wikipedia). It’s probably one of the nicest things I have ever heard.
Just as the music started becoming interesting, I turned the chair to face the television set. The movie “Uncorked” was on. This film is otherwise known as “At Sachem Farm.” The particular scene that really caught my attention was this:
I want you to watch the entire ten minutes. Trust me, it will be worth it. I can’t put my finger on it, but there is something different about this movie. It’s the way…I don’t know.
I continued to watch the remainder of the movie and found it very good. I really enjoyed it and have been thinking about it for days. This is what makes Uncorked one of my favorite movies. I have searched for somewhere to rent this movie, but came up dry. Also, Amazon offers some DVDs that are very expensive.
This whole thing got me thinking. What are my favorite movies? After some thought, I came up with three:
- Uncorked
- A Good Year
- A Beautiful Mind
I think these are a fairly good representation of what I like and what I think about. If you watch them, they may very well become your favorites too.
I was able to find a trailer for “A Beautiful Mind,” but I couldn’t locate anything on “A Good Year.” If I do, I will place it here.
